We included this recipe to cook your own playdough in our April ‘Monsters’ box because, let’s face it, which monkey doesn’t enjoy playing with playdough!? It’s really easy to make your own and knowing what is going into it is great as little monkeys like eating it. We love encouraging creativity and this activity doesn’t have to be limited to making monsters – this is perfect to get little imaginations soaring!
Time needed: 15 minutes
Learning potential: mixing, measuring , safe stove use, kneading
To make the playdough:
2 tablespoons cooking oil
4 tablespoons Cream of Tartar
2 cups sifted plain flour
1 cup fine table salt
2 cups water
To make playdough monsters:
Different coloured pipe cleaners
1. Get your monkeys to measure all the ingredients into a large saucepan.
TIP: the more salt you use, the less likely your monkeys are going to eat the playdough – it won’t change the consistency. Your play dough will store in a zip lock bag in the fridge for months.
