Making your own muesli is a really healthy option and will allow you to add (or leave out) any ingredients you wish. I usually add whatever I have in the cupboard to the oats. This homemade muesli is a great way to enrich your monkey’s diet with fibre, protein, healthy fats and many important nutrients.
Time needed: 20 minutes
2 cups rolled oats
3T honey (or maple syrup), warmed slightly in the microwave
1T sunflower oil
A handful of the following (quantities to your liking):
almonds / cashews / walnuts, chopped
dried apricots / apples / bananas, chopped
1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
2. Add warm honey and sunflower oil to the rolled oats.
3. Spread the oats out over a baking tray and bake in oven until it crisps. Stir halfway through cooking. Watch the colour and let the oats crisp to your liking. Take care not to burn them.
4. Transfer to a large bowl.
5. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well until everything is combined.
TIP: Let the muesli cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
